Athenian Rhapsody sure has some cute enemy designs! I’ve written an extensive boss friendship guide here, but this article covers the regular enemies you’ll encounter on the overworld. They won’t join you in battles, but there are still some benefits to befriending them. Speak to the “Thunder Goober” (round, white character with a mustache and top hat) after befriending every enemy in an area to get fun badges to use on your Rhapsody at the end of the game!

I’ve included what increased friendship meters the most for me out of the available React options. I’m uncertain as to whether the personality test from the beginning of the game impacts anything, but it seems like that’s a no after my second playthrough.

You can’t really outrun most enemies on the over world but you may be able to avoid some by sneaking past them. Turn on auto run anyway in settings to speed things up for yourself.

The Plains

Buglurt

• React:
  • conspiracy theories then any of the theories
  • Wave and then wave harder
• Attack: Bugs come at you quickly from all sides. Dodge

Cattail

• React:
  • Gas up then agree x2
  • Talk smack x3 then drink bubble
• Attack: Drips water down onto you, then you’ll be underwater and need to dodge moving balls of water. Sometimes tiny bubbles come back up from those balls and hit you

Skwumpy

• React:
  • Drop rhymes until you see Me Too then Stole My Money,
  • Charm then sweet talk x2 then Charm again
• Attacks:
  • Drops small acorns from above
  • Large acorns come at you from all sides

Squeasel

• React:
  • Stare then stop staring.
  • Ask for jokes several times
• Attacks:
  • His hand will wait a moment and then come towards you. Stay in place for a second and then move away before the hand can get you.
  • Small version of the Squeasel chases you around.

The Forest of Fortune

Forest Spectre

• React: financial advice then question taxes multiple times
• Attack: Green balls of light move back and forth, need to dodge

Franklin

• React:
  • Magic trick then optical illusion then turn hat forward for full friendship meter.
  • Guessing contest then try each guess
• Attack: Have to dodge a lot of balls and bowling pins that bounce off the walls

Schnowl

• React:
  • Choose other options first then high five?
  • Job opportunities then outdoor skills then smile?
  • Recipe then delish then nostalgia
• Attacks:
  • Spits seeds from above
  • Has wings come at you from both sides & beak from above

Magic Mountain

Chuma

• React: Rock Collection then What purpose then Tiger’s Eye
• Attack: Large lemons drop straight down while smaller ones drift side to side then down on screen

Dimilant

• React:
  • Sack x2 then yes
  • Plead x2 then Mercy,
  • Tell Secrets multiple times
• Attacks:
  • Sharp objects come from above & below at same time
  • Swords appear and scroll up on left & right of screen

Helman

• React: Biology multiple times
• Attacks:
  • Drops spiky balls into a pile at bottom of box (same pattern each time?)
  • Dodge damaging drops from a rain cloud with spiked ball roaming bottom of box

Hiemal Tundra

Bearable

• React:
  • Boop nose.
  • Middle name then Penelope.
• Attacks:
• Hook swings down across the screen and then swings back up.
• Claw comes from the (right?) side towards you while icicles fall from above

Chugga

• React:
  • Hop onboard then buy ticket & hop onboard again.
  • In alternative options grease it up/mechanics/coal burner seem to have equal friendship increases.
• Attacks:
  • Train speeds back & forth across bottom of box, have to avoid.
  • Coal drops from above as a face floats across the center.

Griffen

• React: Profession
• Attacks:
  • Griffen avatar chases you and attacks with blade arms.
  • Blades come at you from left/right and come downward
