Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes – What We Know So Far

The release date for turn-based RPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is just around the corner (April 23rd). If you haven’t already, be sure to check out its action RPG prequel, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, which introduces some of the characters we’ll meet in Hundred Heroes.

There are many reasons why I’m excited for Hundred Heroes; for one thing, the game features more than one hundred recruitable heroes (as its name implies). It looks like it’s got a lot to offer, so I decided to gather and condense all the information I could find on the game (current up until the end of March) in one place. Information has been gathered from the website, social media, the Kickstarter page, the FAQs, the Wiki, and more.

Many staff members worked on games in the Suikoden series, which I really enjoyed playing!

  • Junichi Murakami: Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, The Sword of Etheria
  • Osamu Komuta: Suikoden Tactics, Suikoden Tierkreis, Arca Last

Rising Returns

Out of the 40 characters I’ve seen revealed so far, 7 of them come from Rising:

CJ was the main character in Rising; she’s always willing to help people out, much to teammate Garoo’s chagrin.

Isha was the third and final party member in the first game, and she managed New Nevaeh as its mayor. Gocteau represented the merchants and outlanders in the settlement.

Mellore is an adorable yet destructive “magical girl.”

Squash ran the accessory shop in New Nevaeh, while Frida was in charge of the armor shop.

I also noticed Hogan (who ran New Nevaeh’s trading post) in one of the informational videos for the game.

Multiple Modes

I assume that the store owners will be non-combatants. But for whoever sets foot on the battlefield, there are a few ways they can do so.

  • Turn-Based Combat:
    • 6 characters in battle
      • Units have short, medium, or long range capabilities
      • Partner combos
      • Learn AI commands that they automatically use in battle
    • Exploit the terrain
  • War Mode: Strategy on the battlefield

The Kickstarter page suggests that these modes may also exist in the final version:

  • Hero Mode: randomized dungeons with party members losing strength as time passes
  • Asynchronous Mode: other players can fight your army using your uploaded party & fortress data
  • Battle Defense Mode: invaders will attack your fortress town. You need to build defenses

Regal Renovations

In Rising we got to upgrade the settlement of New Nevaeh, but in Hundred Heroes they decided to put us in charge of an entire castle/fortress town! When you recruit new characters, you’ll be able to add facilities to your domain. You’ll add more practical facilities like a blacksmith as well as entertainment venues such as a theatre. A guild system will also be implemented once the fortress town is large enough.

Fun & Games In Your Domain

If you need a break from battle and building, there are quite a few mini games for you to enjoy:

  • Beigoma (Japanese tops)
  • Eggleg racing & training
  • Cooking
  • Cards
  • Fishing
  • Guild system
  • Trading
  • More?

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Launch 🎉

I’ve been keeping an eye on this game for a while now, and I just can’t wait for Hundred Heroes to come out already! My experience with Rising and everything I’ve read about HH so far makes me think that this very well could be a contender for my Game of the Year. 💯
