Afterlove EP Makes Our Hearts “Beat” Faster on Valentine’s Day

Publisher Fellow Traveller hopes players will fall in love with Afterlove EP when it launches on Switch on February 14th. Set in Jakarta, Indonesia, the game combines dating sim, narrative adventure, and rhythm game elements. I enjoy all of these genres, and have been looking forward to this one since it was first announced.

The heavy emphasis on Indonesian culture makes it even more interesting and appealing to me. Developed by a fully Indonesian team, Afterlove EP contains art from Indonesian artist Soyatu, and an original soundtrack from Indonesian band L’alphalpha. (I really like the music in the trailer, so they’re off to a great start!)

This game is the final project of Mohammad Fahmi, the creative mind behind the fantastic Coffee Talk series (Episode 2 reviewed here) and What Comes After. He really wanted to use Afterlove EP as a way to showcase the city of Jakarta, and as per this Games Industry article, the development team has used a “well documented” story outline to honor Fahmi’s vision for the game.

The loss of Fahmi is undoubtedly a huge blow to those close to him, and to the Indonesian development community as a whole. His influence will continue to be felt not only in Afterlove EP, but also in future games that have yet to be released. (Stay tuned for Coffee Talk Tokyo, set for a 2025 release.)
