A review code was kindly provided by ONE PR Studio on behalf of Omega Force and KOEI TECMO AMERICA. We thank them for being able to cover something they’ve worked so hard on.

We’ve previously reviewed Fate/Samurai Remnant and its first DLC episode, and the second DLC episode is now available as well! Iori and Saber will meet a new Rogue Servant whose name and stature are just as imposing as the Servant we met in the first episode. Will this new character be our “Fated” friend, foe, or frenemy? Let’s find out!

To play the second episode – entitled “Record’s Fragment: Yagyu Sword Chronicles” – you must complete the main story up until Chapter 3: “My Mind Bides on the Battlefield.” When you’re free to move around Edo, you can then select the latest DLC episode on the map.

In this episode, Iori and Saber help Sukenoshin investigate recent tsujigiri murders in the area. Are these ruthless attacks related to the Ritual, or are they just another display of everyday cruelty? As you run around questioning the people of Edo, you will face more hordes of enemies in engaging action combat.

Along the way, you’ll meet the latest addition to the Servant roster. I thought their outfit looked pretty cool, and the music that plays during their initial appearance was great too. You get to control the Iori/Saber duo, a Servant we’ve met before, and the new Servant in this DLC episode.

After the beginning cutscenes, a new section of Iori’s skill tree unlocks, and of course you also get to unlock abilities on the new Servant’s skill tree as well. Sadly I don’t think that we really get to learn very much about this character due to the shortness of the episode.

Personally I thought the story in this one was rather predictable for the most part. If you go into it expecting a meaningful plot, you’ll probably be disappointed. While the first DLC was admittedly somewhat repetitive, I still found it entertaining when it came to the character interactions. It was also longer than the second episode.

That’s not to say that there are no redeeming qualities. I did appreciate spending a little more time with Iori and Saber, and of course getting to fight some more. The second DLC is also better in that we get to see more of Edo’s lovely architecture compared to the arena-heavy first episode. I’m also excited to have another Servant option to use in the main game. I’m interested in seeing what they’ll do with the next episode, and hope it’s got just a bit more content next time.
