I still can’t believe that it’s already September! Recently we reviewed Rune Factory 3 Special, a remaster of the original DS game. That was a lot of fun! But September’s not over yet, with even more interesting games making their way to Switch. Let’s check them out!
Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster

- Price: $49.99 USD (digital)
- Developer: Logicalbeat Co. Ltd
- Publisher: BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment
- Release Date: September 14, 2023
As someone who prefers portable consoles, I’ve sadly never played either Baten Kaitos game before. So I’m excited to see that Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and Baten Kaitos Origins will arrive on Switch as Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster in just a few days! These classic GameCube games are JRPGs with card-based gameplay, and the remaster includes updated graphics as well as modern quality of life features.

The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails

- Price: $39.99 (digital), $49.99 (physical)
- Developer: Nihon Falcom
- Publisher: NIS America
- Release Date: September 19, 2023 (NA/JP), September 22 (EU)
Nihon Falcom and NIS America continue to add fantastic games to the Nintendo Switch catalogue. I adore the Trails/Kiseki series, its characters, and its interconnected storylines. Now they’re bringing The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails, an action RPG spinoff of the series, to Switch. I’ve never played an action Trails game (although I know there was a Japan-only Ys vs. Trails in the Sky fighting game on PSP back in the day 👀). So I’m really excited to play this!
The story focuses on an astronomy-obsessed boy named Nayuta, who lives on an island where the people claim that the Earth is flat. (Oh dear!) Yet ruins and stars fall from the sky over Remnant Isle, and Nayuta questions the island’s geological status. One day, he explores a fallen ruin with his friend, and they save a fairy there, who asks them to help her get back an item that was stolen from her. This meeting starts Nayuta’s journey away from his island; find out “how far [he’ll] go” when The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails arrives soon.

Days of Doom

- Price: $29.99 (digital & physical)
- Developer: SneakyBox
- Publisher: Atari
- Release Date: September 21, 2023
Many games involve saving the world, but Days of Doom differs in that the world as you know it has already ended. This is a post-apocalyptic roguelite tactics RPG that asks players to gather survivors and make their way to a place known as “Sanctuary” in a frightening new world full of zombies and raiders.
Try to keep your ragtag team alive, using abilities from 8 character classes to defeat your enemies and get closer and closer to Sanctuary each time. Don’t worry if you don’t make it there on your first few runs, though – each run will be different, but permanent upgrades increase your chances of success the next time! View more than 50 randomly occurring events and find 70 items and runes each time you play. Do your best to avoid the tomb in Days of Doom!

Warriors of the Nile 2

- Price: $14.99
- Developer: Stove Studio
- Publisher: Gamera Games
- Release Date: September 21, 2023
Control warriors blessed by Egyptian gods in battle against the Roman invaders in this roguelite turn-based strategy RPG. Customize your units by choosing from different skill tablets, and use the gods’ blessings when battles aren’t going your way. I like the theme and the art style!

Evolings

- Price: $8.99
- Developer: Sørb Games
- Publisher: Super Rare Games
- Release Date: September 21, 2023
With some oddly adorable little creatures, Evolings has you fight against evil Evolings in turn-based combat using a team of your own Evolings. Try to complete the Evopedia as you discover the standard version of an Evoling, but also “dazzling shiny,” “super shiny,” and rainbow versions of them! Complete all 3 acts of the game – with cutscenes – to earn a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Mineko’s Night Market

- Price: $19.99 (digital), $34.99 (physical)
- Developer: Meowza Games
- Publisher: Humble Games
- Release Date: September 26, 2023
Mineko’s Night Market has been one of my most anticipated games over the last few years. First of all, the art looks so cute and wholesome. It’s a social simulation game with a focus on Japanese culture, crafting, and cats. Those elements check a lot of boxes for me when it comes to my gaming purr-eferences! 😉🐈 I love the idea of exploring the main character’s new home on an island, and there are puzzles and Night Market games to enjoy there.

Paleo Pines

- Price: $29.99 (digital & physical; currently on sale digitally for $25.49 until release)
- Developer: Italic Pig
- Publisher: Modus Games
- Release Date: September 26, 2023
Paleo Pines is another indie game that’s been on my radar for a while now. I recently had the chance to check out the demo, and I loved the dinosaurs and the vibrant colors in the game. Fix up your new ranch and grow crops with some help from the dinosaurs you befriend. Ride one of your dinosaurs around as you explore and make friends with your human neighbors as well.

Abomi Nation

- Price: $19.99
- Developer: Orange Pylon Games
- Publisher: DANGEN Entertainment
- Release Date: September 28, 2023
The cleverly-titled Abomi Nation is a roguelike monster taming RPG. There are more than 175 Abomis to tame and evolve, and you can customize settings such as which Abomis appear, or if you want to play with permadeath turned on. The island you’re on constantly changes; a new version of Abomi Nation will appear in every playthrough. Battles are not the only focus, as you can increase your team’s stats by sharing meals, playing mini games, and joining in the fun with events held by the townspeople.

All of these sound like a good time to me – which one(s) are you planning on getting? 🤔
