We’re over halfway through May, and more great games await us! These are a few that I’m really looking forward to – and I’ve included an extra game that released a few days ago as well. 🐰
Bunhouse

- Price: $19.99 USD
- Developer: Reky Studios
- Publisher: Digerati
- Release Date: May 18, 2023

Bunhouse is a wholesome game that has you play as a cute little bunny who gardens. Chill out and tend to some plants, then sell what you’ve grown to earn enough money to buy decorations and upgrades for the garden and greenhouse! Although you can play by yourself if you’d like, they did include an unexpected yet welcome couch co-op mode where you can play with four of your friends! I love bunnies and (virtual) gardening, so I think this looks really fun. 🐰
Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook

- Price: $49.99 USD (digital & physical)
- Developer: Nippon Ichi Software
- Publisher: NIS America
- Release Date: May 23, 2023
Next up is Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook, a survival strategy RPG that combines dungeon exploration, tactical combat, and some interesting cooking options. You get to customize your party members’ class, appearance and pose, and voice. Once inside of the dungeon, these characters will have to forage for food to keep them in good enough condition to fight monsters.

Gather the defeated monsters’ remains to cook their meat later, or eat them then and there – mmm, delicious? 😂 For those with weak stomachs, you can apparently censor the “gross” food (according to Noisy Pixel). Find out if this will be to your taste by downloading the demo!
ghostpia Season One

- Price: $19.99 USD (currently on sale for $17.99 until tomorrow)
- Developer: Chosuido
- Publisher: PQube
- Release Date: May 23, 2023

The website for ghostpia: Season One describes the game as “a movie you can read.” The story is set in an isolated town with immortal residents who call themselves ghosts. They say that their town is a utopia. But a girl named Sayako is unsure of this claim, and wants to return home. Can she regain her lost memories and make her way through the snowy landscapes to get home? Enjoy a story without quick time events or branching scenarios, and stick around for the second season (release date unknown). We’ll be posting our review in the next day or so!
Dark Quest 3

- Price: $18.99 USD
- Developer/Publisher: Brain Seal Entertainment
- Release Date: May 24, 2023 (NA); June 2 (EU)

A narrated roguelite tabletop experience, Dark Quest 3 allows you to create your party and decide where to go next on the map based on your team’s strengths and weaknesses. There are 12 heroes to choose from, and you’ll control their procedurally generated journey across 13 areas. Gameplay consists of tactical turn-based combat with adventure cards and dice. Get ready to press your luck as your party advances.
Cassette Beasts

- Price: $19.99 USD
- Developer: Bytten Studio
- Publisher: Raw Fury
- Release Date: May 25, 2023
This creative take on the monster-collecting genre has you record/“catch” a monster’s ability onto a cassette tape, and then you can play back the tape to borrow the monster’s form in battle! You’ll also have a companion capable of transformation, and any two monster forms can be fused together to combine their strength.

And you’ll need that strength on an island with constant monster attacks. Explore, solve puzzles, and make friends with the game’s cast in between battles. This sounds like a lot of fun – I’ve really been looking forward to Cassette Beasts, and wish I could “fast forward” to the 25th and play it now!
To The Rescue!

- Price: $19.99 USD
- Developer: Little Rock Games
- Publisher: Freedom Games
- Release Date: May 25, 2023
Finally, To The Rescue! is another game that’s been on my radar for a while. It’s a dog shelter simulator where you have to manage their care as you also try to help them find their “fur-ever” home. 🥰 Every doggo will have their own traits and needs; you’ll have to match dogs with a compatible human based on both of their preferences.

Take care of the dogs’ everyday needs and healthcare, and play mini games to add to the fun. It’s not all fun and games though, as you’ll have to manage the shelter’s funds and upgrade it to house additional dogs. I’m happy to see that they intend to donate 20% of the game’s profits to real dog shelters with the assistance of the PetFinder Foundation.
That’s it for my list of anticipated games for the remainder of May! Are you planning on getting any of these? 💕
