Upcoming Games – August 31, 2022

We’ve reviewed some fantastic games recently, such as I Was A Teenage Exocolonist (with an accompanying guide) and Lost in Play. September will be a busy month full of even more great games releasing on Nintendo Switch. Let’s check them out!

September 1, 2022

Several games come out on September 1st, and they all look like a lot of fun:

Here Comes Niko

  • Developer: Frog Vibes
  • Publisher: Gears for Breakfast
  • Price: $24.99 USD

Described as a “cozy 3D platformer for tired people,” Here Comes Niko! has you play as Niko, who was recently hired as a “professional friend” to help solve problems for different creatures across 6 islands. Catch some fish and bugs, make art, and listen to your new friends about their problems. Do your job well and you’ll be able to invest your funds in the transportation system to help make your way to new islands. The game looks incredibly cute, and as a tired person that likes their description I plan to check this out. 😴🥰

Ooblets

  • Developer/Publisher: Glumberland
  • Price: $29.99 (currently on sale for $19.99 until September 8th)

Raise “weird little pals” known as Ooblets, who will travel by your side as you try to save Badgetown. Customize both your character’s appearance and house, and grow and craft items to sell in town. There are a variety of mini games and side quests for you to complete in between exploring the surrounding regions and getting to know the citizens of Badgetown. It sounds like there’s a lot of content in Ooblets, and as an added bonus, we can pet the Ooblets!

ANNO: Mutationem

  • Developer: Thinking Stars
  • Publisher: Lightning Games
  • Price: $24.99 (currently on sale for $22.49 until September 1st – HAS DEMO!)

ANNO: Mutationem is a Cyberpunk action/adventure RPG in which you’ll switch between 2D action-based combat/platforming and 3D exploration modes. There’s a demo available on the eShop, which we checked out and enjoyed:

As main character Ann, your goal is to track down her brother – but be prepared to defend yourself from the many miscreants who attack you along the way. Aided by your flying car, you’ll explore multiple locations and find items to sell or use for crafting better equipment to help you stay safe.

September 6-22, 2022

Circus Electrique

  • Release Date: September 6, 2022
  • Developer: Zen Studios
  • Publisher: Saber Interactive Incorporated
  • Price: $19.99

When people in London suddenly become crazed killers, Circus Electrique will be there to save the day! In between restoring the circus to its former glory through the circus management feature, you’ll also confront the berserk butchers “bumping off” your potential customers. Combat consists of tactical turn-based battles, and involves combining the skills of your performers’ different “archetypes” such as Strongmen or Fire Blowers. If you think you have what it takes, “throw your hat in the ring” when Circus Electrique arrives on Nintendo Switch.

Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim

  • Release Date: September 7, 2022
  • Developer: Squiddershins
  • Publisher: Top Hat Studios
  • Price: $9.99

I never thought I’d see a kaiju dating sim, but developer Squiddershins is full of creativity and came up with Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim. Play as Gigachu the Romantasaurus, who is looking for love with one of their fellow kaiju. Date one of six adorable love interests, and take them on romantic excursions to one of twenty-four famous landmarks. Humans would enjoy the scenery, but kaiju? Their catastrophic courting will reduce their date locations to rubble! There will be some ups and downs, but in the end love should prevail! Check out our review when the game comes out on the 7th!

Absolute Tactics: Daughters of Mercy

  • Release Date: September 15, 2022
  • Developer: Curious Fate
  • Publisher: Akupara Games
  • Price: $24.99

I loved the launch trailer for Absolute Tactics: Daughters of Mercy, a turn-based RPG that aims to “put a modern spin on classic tactics-style games.” Huxley and his newfoundland dog must team up with their allies to face an army that’s invading their homeland. With the ability to equip 2 classes at once, choose from 21 class options to increase your chance of emerging victorious against your enemies. Battle your enemies at your chosen difficulty level across dozens of story maps – with optional levels, post-game content, and more! Get ready to have an…absolute…blast with tactical combat and a rich story when the game launches on Switch in mid-September. We’ll be posting our review around that time as well.

Bear and Breakfast

  • Release Date: September 15, 2022
  • Developer: Gummy Cat
  • Publisher: Armor Game Studios
  • Price: $19.99

A bear named Hank has decided to renovate a rundown shack in the woods with his friends in order to start a bed & breakfast business. Customize your guests’ rooms from the furniture to the fixtures, and build additional bathrooms, parlors, and entertainment space to attract more customers. Get to know your guests and be sure to make their stay a good one – your reputation and tips are on the line! Make every moment a Kodak Kodiak moment at your inn. 🐻 Bear and Breakfast has different storylines, side quests, and secrets to uncover, and it sure looks very “bear-y” fun to me!

Jack Move

  • Release Date: September 20, 2022
  • Developer: So Romantic
  • Publisher: HypeTrain Digital
  • Price: Currently unlisted

Jack Move is described as a cyberpunk-themed JRPG inspired by Akira, Bladerunner, Strange Days, and the novels of William Gibson. (Final Fantasy VII, Grandia, and the amazing Golden Sun are cited as additional inspirations.) Play as Noa, a hacker whose father has gone missing, and defend yourself against the many dangers ahead in the game’s cyberspace battle system. In that system, you’ll be able to customize the hardware and software of your Cyber Deck, allowing you to change between offensive and defensive modes at will during combat. It looks like a really cool game, so I’m excited to check it out.

Beacon Pines

  • Release Date: September 22, 2022
  • Developer: Hiding Spot
  • Publisher: Fellow Traveller
  • Price: $19.99

A “cute and creepy storybook adventure,” Beacon Pines allows you to play as both the reader of that book and its adorable main character, Luka. As Luka, check out the odd occurrences in Beacon Pines and collect charms that can be used to change important events in the story later on. Playing as the reader, you’ll interact with a branching story tree and dive into different branches to watch alternative events unfold. (It reminds me a little bit of The Great Good Thing (2001), The Book Jumper (2015), and perhaps even Radiant Historia (2010, 2017).) I love anything cute, and the art I’ve seen looks gorgeous, so I’ll sit here…pining…away for the game until its release.

OneShot: World Machine Edition

  • Release Date: September 22, 2022
  • Developer: Future Cat
  • Publisher: DANGEN Entertainment
  • Price: $14.99

As the name of the game would imply, you only have one opportunity to save the world by restoring its long-dead Sun through top-down puzzle/adventure gameplay. OneShot: World Machine Edition includes “haunting” artwork with a soundtrack to match, but hopefully the supportive interactions between you (as the player) and your character will help you get through this nerve-wracking quest.

Potion Permit

  • Release Date: September 22, 2022
  • Developer: MassHive Media
  • Publisher: PQube
  • Price: $19.99 ($39.99 for physical)

I’m always down to play simulation games, and Potion Permit has been on my radar for a while. In the town of Moonbury, the mayor’s daughter has an illness that cannot be handled by their local witch doctor. They ask the Medical Association to send your character to help out by using their abilities as a chemist. Besides curing the mayor’s daughter, you’ll also have to take care of around 30 residents by diagnosing their ailments and crafting a cure. Gather ingredients from the surrounding areas – but be careful, because you may need to confront monsters to get your hands on what you need for a cure. Successfully curing the townspeople of their ailments and upgrading the town will increase your reputation, and you may even find love with one of Moonbury’s citizens! I hope to check this game out if time…permits. 😉

September 30, 2022: SOEDESCO September!

Finally, publisher SOEDESCO has got a triple threat of releases coming out on Switch on September 30th. (SOEDESCO September, anyone?) Available digitally and physically, these releases consist of:

  • Bunny Park ($19.99, on sale for $17.99 until September 30th): a bunny park management game where the goal is to improve the park, attract more bunnies, and keep them happy with cute decor and toys!
  • Lemon Cake ($29.99): Restore a rundown and haunted bakery. Decide on the decor in this decadent dessert-serving delight. Harvest ingredients for your desserts, then serve the finished results to your waiting customers!
  • Airoheart ($39.99): As Airoheart, stop your brother from starting a war. Fight monsters in real time combat, solve puzzles, and explore dungeons in this lovely world of pixel art.

We hope you’ve enjoyed taking a look at some of September’s upcoming releases on Nintendo Switch. Which game(s) do you plan on getting?
