I admire developers who continue to improve and update their games. The games included in this article have recent or future free updates with a lot of great content!
Dawn of the Monsters

We recently reviewed Dawn of the Monsters, a challenging yet fun 2.5D side-scrolling beat ‘em up game in which you control kaiju to beat kaiju. A few days ago, they updated the game to make it even better!
The update patches some issues and also adds a performance mode to the Nintendo Switch version, which improves the frame rate. Please see the graphic from 13AM Games below for more details!
Nexomon Extinction
On sale for 50% off in the UK (£8.49), Europe (€9.99), and Australia ($15) until June 19th
Nexomon Extinction also received an update recently, which adds a whole new quest line to the post game, a new region and store, a new Luring function, and nearly 50 new Nexomon! Once you’ve completed the main storyline – as well as side quests 11, 35, and 36 – you’ll be able to access the new perks from the update! This was so unexpected but I’m excited for it!
Monster Sanctuary
On sale for 66% off in the US ($6.79), the UK (£5.43), Europe (€6.79), and Australia ($9.84) for another ~24-48 hours based on region
Monster Sanctuary is a metroidvania/creature collecting game with an update coming out on June 30th. The Forgotten World update will include a new area to explore, as well as some new monsters! New skills, equipment, and opponents will be added to the game, and they’ve made some quality-of-life changes as well. Finally, they’ve also added THREE new game modes:
- Randomizer: all monsters swapped around (presumably meaning the areas they’re found in?); can’t deactivate this mode once chosen
- Permadeath: Defeat is permanent with some exceptions. A defeated monster’s exploration abilities will remain usable. If all monsters in your party are defeated, this mode is disabled and you can use your monsters again.
- Bravery: Play with a limited and random roster of monsters
These modes can be used together and with New Game+ mode! I’m so impressed with the large amount of content added in this free update!
Boyfriend Dungeon
On sale for 20% off in the UK (£12.23), Europe (€13.59), and Australia ($20.40) until June 19th
Boyfriend Dungeon is a unique game that allows you to date your weapons. Go on dates outside of dungeons to hang out with their more human form, then wield their weapon forms against enemies in dungeons. It’s cute and clever, and I love the references to other games made by developer Kitfox Games. The upcoming update will include additional weapons to date, a new dungeon, and some new music tracks!
Citizen Sleeper
On sale for 10% off in the US ($17.99), the UK (£16.19), Europe (€17.99), and Australia ($27) until June 26th for all but the US, which ends on the 27th
Citizen Sleeper is a narrative RPG that lets you role play in “the ruins of interplanetary capitalism.” The game takes inspiration from tabletop RPGs, and sounds like an interesting experience! They’re continuing to work hard on content for the game, with plans for 3 free new episodes through 2023! The story is intended to be interconnected, and new characters will make an appearance to tell their stories.
SkateBIRD
A few days ago, Wholesome Games hosted another great Wholesome Direct. This direct included an announcement for a SkateBIRD update that includes new outfits, a new level, and a surprising new playable skater (viewable in the video above at 42:44). The video – posted 3 days ago – indicated that the update would be available on consoles a few days later. SkateBIRD looks pretty cute, and I love the pun in the title!
