Nintendo announced in this post that Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) subscribers can now redeem their My Nintendo Platinum Points for NSO exclusive icons. (***All images in this article are from that link.***)

While you can use Platinum Points that you’ve earned elsewhere, there are also missions in the Nintendo Switch Online app that you can complete for additional points.

Currently, there are redeemable icons for Super Mario Odyssey as well as Animal Crossing: New Horizons. You can use your points on the main character icons, backgrounds, and frames. The separate options from those 3 categories can be combined in the way you want them.

The Animal Crossing icons seem like they’ll be updating monthly based on villager birthdays, and it says that the Super Mario Odyssey icons will update every week (apparently every Monday).

I like the idea of this, although you unfortunately cannot change your icons obtained in NSO outside of the app on your console. I tried to do so in my profile and the icons originating from NSO did not appear as an option. However, if you change your icon in the NSO app it will appear on your profile everywhere. It is unclear whether or not you will be able to maintain access to the NSO icon options if your membership ends, but I would assume you won’t be able to.

I’m really hoping to see Golden Sun icons; I’d love to see the main characters (both the protagonists and antagonists), the summons, and the djinn. I would also want icons for the characters from Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Rune Factory games. Perhaps indie games could be included as well. Pokémon icons would be neat, but I don’t think my points would cover all of the ones I’d want. 😂 What icons would you want to see?
