Most Anticipated Games: March 2022

There are a lot of great games making their way to Nintendo Switch this month, but there are just a few that really caught my eye. While there are a few ā€œbiggerā€ titles I’m looking forward to, I’m extremely excited for the indie games as well. Some of these games – listed in order of their release dates – even have demos! 😁

TRIANGLE STRATEGY

I have fond memories of playing Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together on my PSP over a decade ago. Tactics games have always been some of my favorite games, and I like them even more when there are branching storylines. Tomorrow, March 4th, the uniquely named TRIANGLE STRATEGY makes its way onto Nintendo Switch. We’ll be able to make a variety of decisions that will impact the storylines you experience and which characters will join you. Interestingly enough, your allies will also influence the path you take when options are put to a vote. Convincing allies of your plan before the vote can impact the results. It sounds really interesting, and I’m looking forward to it. I’ve played a bit of the demo, and the characters’ animations really reminded me of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA; 2003), another favorite of mine. There’s also voice acting, which is another plus for me.

Young Souls

1P2P Studio certainly must have poured their hearts and souls into the March 10th release of Young Souls. Jenn and Tristan, two orphans, were taken in by a scientist, who has now gone missing. As they search for their guardian, Jenn and Tristan find themselves in a parallel world where goblins live! 😱 You’ll have to defeat your enemies in a side-scrolling beat’em up format; there’s apparently an interesting system for your combat gear in which you can have your characters equip armor and more aesthetically pleasing clothes. It makes me sad when the prettier equipment is less protective, so I like the sound of this system in Young Souls.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

On March 17th, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will take the stage. Although I would have preferred Persona 3, 4, or 5 to be ported first (with the option to play as either gender), I’m not going to say no to Persona content on Switch. I’ve never played P4AU, as I only really play on portable consoles, so I’m looking forward to this. I liked the Persona Q games on 3DS, so the fact that there will be Persona 3 and 4 characters in Arena Ultimax makes it even more appealing to me. Hopefully this will sell enough for the other Persona games to stand a…fighting…chance (šŸ˜‰) of coming to Switch!

Kraken Academy!!

I’ve already finished the demo for Kraken Academy!! – out March 22nd – and there was a lot that I liked. The character art appealed to me, we’ll apparently be able to decorate our dorm room, and the plot will involve time loops! ā° There’s a character named Broccoli Girl that actually looks like broccoli. It looks really zany and fun – you’ll work with a magical Kraken to save the school! šŸ™ šŸ¦‘ And as you try to figure out what’s going on, you’ll join different school clubs and get to know your fellow students. My school days are long gone, but I’m ready to go back to school when Kraken Academy!! comes out!

Rune Factory 5

As I’ve said before, I’ve played Rune Factory games since the first release in 2007. Fifteen years later, Rune Factory 5 is making its way to Switch on March 22nd. I can’t wait to get to know new characters, farm, craft, and engage in action based combat once again. I think it’s pretty telling that although I’m absolutely awful at non turn-based combat, I continue to return to the Rune Factory series over and over again due to the excellent characters and relationships as well as the gameplay. I’m especially hyped for RF5’s voice acting cast, which includes Joe Zieja (Claude from Fire Emblem: Three Houses), Robbie Daymond (Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon), SungWon Cho (FL4K in BORDERLANDS 3), Erica Mendez (Sailor Uranus, Bernadetta from FE3H), and more! This will also be the first RF game that will have same sex marriage candidates as an option!

Coromon

Coromon is yet another game that I’ve been waiting for for a while now, so I was stoked to see the announcement for its March 31st release date. The monster collecting genre is yet another one of my favorites. You’ll play as a newbie Battle Researcher working for Lux Solis; when a threat appears, you’ll track Coromon’s antagonists across 6 major areas. There are side quests to complete and secrets to find, and there are different difficulty settings – as well as Randomized and Nuzlocke modes! The game will apparently have over 100 Coromon to catch, and hundreds of customization options for your character.

What games are you looking forward to this month?
