Kickstarters To Watch – February 24, 2022

We’ve got some more neat Kickstarter highlights for games with planned Nintendo Switch ports. Some of the campaigns end pretty soon, so be sure to help support them if you can!

Mail Time

Mail Time aims to “deliver” (😉) what is described as a “cottagecore” adventure game, in which you will be able to play as a newbie Mail Scout. Make your way through Grumblewood Grove by jumping and gliding around in order to make your first delivery! There will be eight different areas for you to explore in the Grumblewood, as well as a variety of secrets and collectibles for you to discover!

You’ll be able to customize your Mail Scout with more than 600,000 possible combinations of the available options. The game aims to be as inclusive as possible by allowing you to choose your name and your pronouns; there will be a dozen different characters for you to meet, and they will also have a range of genders and sexualities. Do favors for your new friends, help them with their problems, and earn yourself some Mail Scout badges! I love that the Kickstarter description mentions that it will be relaxing and will have many accessibility features! Mail Time looks so fun and cute, so I hope it reaches its additional stretch goals, including the Switch port!

Be sure to also check out the neat Kickstarter backer rewards, which include postcards, posters, notepads, stickers, pins, an art book, plushies, a hat, a shadowbox, and even a backpack!

Mail Time has reached its initial funding goal of $20,000 USD, but it still requires around $6,000 for its Switch porting goal. The campaign ends in 21 days on March 17, 2022, so be sure to help them out by sharing and supporting them! The beta release is projected for Q2 2022, with the full release estimated for Q4 2022.

Kitori Academy

A “cozy life simulator,” Kitori Academy will try to help us fulfill our dreams of finally going to a school of witchcraft and wizardry! But unlike other magic schools, you will get to choose what you learn each day. Check out the Botanic classroom to garden and learn about nature. Use the ingredients you harvest in your Potions assignments! And, of course, learn how to cast spells and practice your dueling skills! 🪄

Besides your academic activities, on days that you need a break, you can look around the academy for relaxing activities like school clubs, bug catching, and fishing. Perhaps you’ll even try to make some friends? Once you have reached a certain level of friendship, you can ask someone to join your team. If you become best friends, you can even give them a special accessory to wear!

I’m excited to see that we’ll be able to customize our characters’ appearance – choose your skin tone, eye shape and color, clothing, and more! What’s more, you can also customize your cat and your room! (One of the backer rewards even lets you put your own kitty in the game! 😻) While you have fun decorating, exploring, and learning, trouble is “brewing” at Kitori Academy. Find out what’s behind it, or it may… “spell” your doom! 😉😱

Kitori Academy has met its initial goal of ~$40,000 USD, but it could still use your support for additional stretch goals such as broom flying (which requires an additional ~$17,000). The campaign currently sits at $78,000, and ends in 14 days on March 10, 2022. The full release on Steam and Nintendo Switch is projected for Fall 2023!

Ignis Universia: Awakening of the Erudite Empress

Random Potion brought Ignis Universia: Eternal Sisters Saga DX to Steam in 2020. Now, they’re trying to fund its sequel, Ignis Universia: Awakening of the Erudite Empress. Random Potion indicated in an update (#3) that they intend to look into a Switch port if their JRPG/visual novel hybrid meets the Kickstarter funding goal! The game is meant to poke fun at classic tropes in those genres, with different stereotypes and cliches.

In this completely turn-based game, you’ll have four characters to use in your party, and they’ll all remain in your party at all times. This means you won’t have to pick and choose which characters to use in your battle party. I like the sound of the friendship point system, which will allow you to use different combos and summon different creatures (like a three-headed corgi!) to aid you in battle. You will also be able to equip different elemental shards to customize your characters’ abilities. Help defeat the “new hydra of horror, the Triplet of Trepidation”! 😱

Ignis Universia only has about 2 days left in its campaign, and still requires about $3,000 USD to meet its initial funding goal. Be sure to check out the campaign before it ends on February 26, 2022. Estimated delivery for the PC version is August 2022, with no listed estimate for a potential Switch version.

Rising Spire

Inspired by Final Fantasy, Majora’s Mask, and the Persona series, Rising Spire is a turn-based RPG with a story that explores the relationships between divine beings – as well as the destruction of civilizations. Master different weapons to unlock different abilities and upgrades, which will help you to succeed in battle. Defeat and purify Daemons, and use that purified energy to supplement your attacks.

As you travel across the world of Malus, you’ll find out more and more about the different cultures there, as well as the secrets that will help you defeat an ominous threat that has remained hidden. Your journal will help you keep track of everyone’s story in this character driven game. I look forward to discovering the lore in Rising Spire.

Rising Spire still requires another $5,000 to meet its full funding goal of $20,000. A Switch port is included in the stretch goals. The campaign ends in 28 days on March 24. 2022. Estimated delivery for the PC version is September 2022, and there does not seem to be an indicated date for a Switch release yet.

Beyond the Long Night

Described as a whimsical combination of Enter the Gungeon, Cave Story, and Fez, Beyond the Long Night is a roguelike twin-stick shooter game where you must explore the underground “Dark Mountain” and try to escape to the Overworld. You’ll have to solve puzzles, upgrade your abilities, and defend yourself against enemies and environmental hazards. Maps are randomly generated across the three major biomes.

In the Dark Mountain, everyone is stuck in a time loop. While the game does use permadeath, the characters you’ve met in previous runs will remember you, and you can continue to develop those relationships in subsequent runs. That sounds like an interesting feature for a game with a time loop!

Beyond the Long Night has met its initial funding goal of ~$11,000, but still needs your help to meet its stretch goals. To achieve a Switch port, they will need around $10,000 more. There are 14 days left in the campaign, which ends on March 10, 2022. The estimated delivery for the PC version appears to be September 2022, and a Switch port – if funded – would come some time later.

I have this posted elsewhere on the site, but if you are clicking directly on the article you may not see that I have indicated that I have no affiliation with any games or their developers/publishers unless otherwise stated. (Other than being a fan, follower, and supporter.) I make zero money for saying or posting anything here. I figured I should reiterate this given my gushing over these games. 😂 Please do check them out and support them if you like what you see though!
