This month we’ve seen some developers publish some major updates to their popular games, and there are some updates – or DLC – coming our way in time for the holidays as well. Let’s check out what’s new with these games!
Spiritfarer
***Possible sensitive content until the next game is mentioned. TW: death, grief – reader and player discretion is advised.***

Almost any time a recommendation thread shows up in the Nintendo Switch subreddit, I’m always unsurprised to see Spiritfarer recommended. Clearly, many have heeded those recommendations, as Thunder Lotus Games has announced that Spiritfarer has reached a well-deserved sales milestone of 1,000,000 copies! Congratulations! 🎉 🎂 🎈

The game is described as a “cozy management game about dying.” So player discretion is advised, I suppose. You play as Stella, the “ferrymaster” who cares for spirits in the afterlife. They have now published the final update: the Jackie & Daria update, which adds two new spirits to the game. Meet Jackie the Hyena and Daria the Bat! They said that this final update is the largest update, adding those two spirits plus a whole new island, and much more! I purchased it pretty recently, but if you want to check it out too, there’s a demo in the eShop link above!
*END OF POTENTIALLY SENSITIVE CONTENT *
Cris Tales

Cris Tales, as described on its eShop page, is an “indie love letter to classic JRPGs.” Time travel between the past, present, and future in and out of combat to stop the Time Empress’ plans. (Also, there’s a frog with an adorable top hat – what more could you want from a game?)

This update seems pretty major, adding an entire character, dungeon, cutscene, and more! (Loading times on Switch have also been reduced by around 30%.) The end of the post about the update indicates that Cris Tales will go on sale on Switch in North America for 50% off (about $20!) starting on December 23rd! Sounds like a good deal to me.
Monster Sanctuary

Monster Sanctuary is yet another game that I see recommended all the time. It’s a monster taming Metroidvania in which you attempt to become the ultimate Monster Keeper. Build your team by hatching, catching, and training monsters, and then battle players around the world online!

The recent update for Monster Sanctuary is the third major post-launch update for the game, which adds new skills for your monsters, balances the gameplay, and also adds a Brazilian Portuguese translation! The developers are continuing to work hard to add even more content, with additional DLC coming next year.
Greak: Memories of Azur

Greak: Memories of Azur is a side-scrolling adventure game in which you control three siblings, alternating between the three of them to use their specific abilities to explore, solve puzzles, and engage in combat. Help them with their goal of building an airship to escape the war-torn land of Azur.

For this update, they’ve added a new boss, new playable cinematic sequences, and some great new accessibility features. The game now offers “helping tips” in areas where players often get confused. There are also new items and loading screen illustrations. I’ve just downloaded the demo to check it out!
Cat Quest II

I believe the first Cat Quest was one of the first few games that I played on Switch. It was adorable, had clever cat related puns, and had a fairly decent sized map to explore. Cat Quest II continues to use a 2D action open-world RPG setting, but this time, they’ve added a dog to the meow mix. 😱 Play by yourself or engage in co-op gameplay with a friend. In this game, you’re *literally* fighting like cats and dogs! 😉 😂

The recent update, called the Infinity Update, adds a dungeon that contains a new boss, and defeating them will let you get your paws on some pawsome new equipment! (Honestly, I’ll be very disappointed if they don’t make a Marvel reference here with the “Infinity Bones.” “Infinity Paw-ntlet”? No? 😂)
Kitaria Fables

Kitaria Fables is an adorable action RPG/farming game where you must deal with the sudden mysterious aggression from the wildlife. Defeat enemies and use the items they leave behind to craft new and improved equipment! Grow crops to help you afford said equipment! 😅 Choose between a sword or a bow, and literally work your magic on your enemies! 🔥

Technically, this isn’t a major content update, but its relevant to the holiday season (now) due to the themed DLC. Kitaria Fables already has some really cute skins you can download (I’m partial to the Siamese and Bengal skins myself), but now they’re really getting into the holiday spirit with some Christmas skin DLC, available on December 20th! What’s more, the game will apparently go on sale in the US between December 23-31; the UK sale has already begun and ends December 30th.
That’s all for the recent updates for some games on Nintendo Switch! We really, really appreciate the hard work that continues to go into these amazing games!
