KOEI TECMO AMERICA has announced that preorders are now officially open for the upcoming December 9th release of Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX on Nintendo Switch (in addition to PC via Steam). It will cost $29.99 digitally on the Nintendo eShop.
KOEI TECMO AMERICA also posted this video on their social media to announce an upcoming world tournament!
In the video, Kazumi Fujita, Monster Rancher’s executive producer, announces that a world tournament is in the works for the game, similar to those previously held in Japan! When you purchase the game, you’ll be able to upload your data to their servers. They’ll host a tournament called the “Monster Koushien World Battle” in order to determine the top monster breeder in the world! This tournament will be a celebration of the Monster Rancher series’ 25th anniversary! 🎉
A Famitsu article stated that Monster Koushien is an official tournament that started at the Tokyo Game Show in 1997. While I couldn’t find footage of the first tournament, here’s a video of the 6th Monster Koushien tournament:
It’s amazing to see how far the series has come in its 25 years of existence! Let’s hope for at least another 25, with more releases in the West!
